Changing Ceiling Fan Light Switch

Ceiling fans are often used in homes to provide cooling and air circulation. They are available in a variety of sizes and styles, and can be installed in any room of the house. Ceiling fans can be controlled by a switch on the wall, or by a remote control. If the light switch for your ceiling fan is not working, it is likely a simple fix that you can do yourself.

Safety First

Removing the Old Switch

Once the power is off, you can begin removing the old switch. First, remove the faceplate from the switch. This is usually held in place by screws. Once the faceplate is removed, you will see the switch itself. It is held in place by two screws. Remove these screws and pull the switch out of the electrical box.

Installing the New Switch

Now you can install the new switch. First, connect the wires from the ceiling fan to the new switch. The black wire should be connected to the black terminal on the switch, the white wire should be connected to the white terminal on the switch, and the green wire should be connected to the green terminal on the switch. Once the wires are connected, push the switch into the electrical box and secure it with the screws.

Replacing the Faceplate

Finally, you can replace the faceplate on the switch. Make sure that the faceplate is aligned properly before you tighten the screws. Once the faceplate is in place, turn the power back on at the breaker panel and test the switch to make sure it is working properly.

Troubleshooting

If the switch is still not working, there may be another problem. Check the following:

The power is turned off at the breaker panel.
The wires are connected properly.
The switch is properly installed in the electrical box.
The faceplate is aligned properly.
The ceiling fan is working properly.
